What you'll need
- A valid private hire driver licence (or willingness to obtain one)
- A vehicle meeting local licensing requirements, or access to one
- A clear enhanced DBS check
- A full, valid driving licence with an acceptable history
- Appropriate vehicle insurance for private hire work
Driver Requirements
Getting licensed
If you don't yet hold a private hire driver licence, we'll point you to your local licensing authority's application process — including the knowledge test, medical and DBS requirements most authorities ask for. Hatters Cars can confirm which authority applies to your circumstances once you're in touch.

What your vehicle needs to meet
Your vehicle needs to meet the private hire vehicle standards set by your local licensing authority — typically age, emissions and condition requirements — plus appropriate private hire insurance. If you don't yet have a vehicle, we can advise on what qualifies before you commit to one.
